The Ride (2012)- Short Film Review
The Ride is the very first entry in our First Annual Short Film Festival and I must say... The BAR has been set and it is pretty damn high! Read the review below!
Welcome to the realm of the New Age Filmmaker, it is a realm where independent filmmaker's can make STUDIO QUALITY FILMS on a budget. The Ride is one of those movies! Right off the rip, I was very impressed with the cinematography of Jefferey Newell, the tastefully shot handheld shots in the beginning will convince you (well they convinced ME anyways) that he is destined for greatness in the world of cinematography.
The film is well very well executed, although the performances (though not terrible) aren't academy award worthy, Director/Producer Mark Martino did an amazing job at keeping my interest throughout the entire film. Also another thing worth noting in this film is the score, the score sounds like something straight out of a Studio Horror Flick... I WAS HIGHLY IMPRESSED!
All and all it was a very well executed film. It was a bit predictable, but this film was originally made for a class project... so we will let that slide. I can't wait to see what this team of artistically crafty masterminds come out with next, I give "The Ride"..... 3.75 out of 5!
